My Anime Otaku: Sumimasen… Nihongo o hanashimasu ka? (Excuse me… Do you speak Japanese?)

May 6th, 2006 by themarksyndromeproject

Ko- ko- konichiwa!!

Welcome to the first issue of “My anime Otaku”, the section that features News, Updates, and Reviews some of my (and your) favorite anime. Please take time to read these, especially if you’re a beginner to videos, anime and trading.

First of all, some definition of terms:

Anime (AH-nee-may or AN-nee-may)

n. -Short for "animation". Refers to "Japanese Animation", a genre/medium that has its roots in the 1960’s when the Japanese began making television versions of their version of comics (manga). Unlike the "cartoon", America and other culture’s counterpart to anime, much of the Japanese animation shown is one of deeper, sometimes more mature themes, including developed storylines, linear plots, and aspects of violence, sex, drama, and comedy (not unlike live-action films in the States). There are different kinds of anime and each kind embraces a different age group or group of people. In

Japan

, the medium is as much respected as the "live-action" genre of movies.

ex. - "Did you watch that new Evangelion? It’s the epitome of what anime is.

Otaku (oh-TAH-kuu)

n. - From the Japanese, literally meaning "house". In

Japan

, the term refers to someone with a heavy, and sometimes near-religious interest in something. In the Japanese culture it also carries a derogatory meaning, in the context of being someone with no real social or personal life outside of the object of their obsession (much like the term "fanboy" or "nerd" in Western culture). However, outside of

Japan

, the term may or may not carry a derogatory meaning depending on the person being referred to. Many anime fans in Western cultures proudly (and sometimes mistakenly) call themselves otaku, preferring to use the term to describe themselves as a "hard core", or knowledgeable, anime fan.

ex. - That Mama Ass is definitely an otaku.

Fansub (FAN-suhb)

n. - Anime in the original Japanese, subtitled into the native language of the translators for distribution in the anime community outside of

Japan

. Much more common than it’s lesser known cousin, the fandub, these fan-translated works are usually done at a medium amount of equipment, expense, and effort. Usually such fans work in groups to increase efficiency and reduce individual cost. As a result, many anime series or episodes of a series which have not been picked up for release by a domestic company outside of

Japan

can be seen before they are "officially" released or licensed (if they are ever released) in non-Japanese countries. Cost is usually minimal to purchase anime done in this manner, and it is not usual for the fan translators to ask that fans not resell their tapes so that they can continue with their work.

ex. - I just ordered The Prince of Tennis fansub today.

== End of Definition ==

(In my upcoming articles in this section, I will give you more definitions, ok? Don’t rush)

In my 1st issue I’m gonna tackle about “my anime collection”.

Anime_collection

========================================================================================================================================================================================

I started collecting animes since March of last year (2005). At first I wanted to collect and watch anime because I was feeling so depressed. My First anime copy was Naruto (128 episode during that time), which was originally owned by my friend (Px).

Now, I currently have 25 anime in my collection (OAV’s and movies are not yet included in the count). I am planning to make other copies of my collection for sale and trade.

Pricing (subject due to change in the future):

Cds: 30 PhPesos each

Dvds: 70 PhPesos each

Trading Rules:

The number of episodes must be equal in the trade, just to be fair

I like it when traders fill up the cd to its capacity but not to the point of overburning.

Please use silver platinum coated cds and let me know if you want me to use branded cds too.

If this is the 1st time you’re going to trade with me, I must receive the package first, unless I requested for the trade.

If you do not have references, you have to send first or trade with other notable noted traders with good trader comments.
